Islam’s nanotechnology research group combines low-dimensional nanostructured materials and devices with conventional integrated circuit (IC) elements and systems. Unlike the research-based approach of sequentially processing individual nanostructures for device physics studies, the group is developing massively parallel nanofabrication techniques crucial for the mass manufacture and reproducible fabrication and incorporation of low-cost nanodevice arrays in highly integrated systems. The group aims to develop synthesis and integration processes for 0D, 1D and 2D materials for potential applications in the areas of electronics, photonics, quantum sensing, data center communication, computing and energy harvesting and storage.
